1908 Charles is founded
Ernest Charles takes over the Ullmann bronze works. The company, then located at 103 Rue de Turenne in Paris, has earned a reputation in the professional bronze art community for its reproductions of ancient lamps.
1920 Emile Albert CHARLES, son fils aîné, prend la succession de l'entreprise
1932 Emile Charles joins forces with his brother Pierre.
1933 For a time, the company is known as Charles Frères
1950 Emile Charles continues to direct the company.
1959 Emile Charles is joined by his two sons: - Jean Charles, first in his class at Ecole Boulle in the interior design and wood sculpture department. - Jacques Charles, a graduate of Arts Appliqués in interior design.
1960 Emile-Albert Charles and his two sons, Jean et Jacques, develop the "Charles Style," a blend of classicism, precision, and contemporary touches that represents a new approach to lighting and decor. Their work includes a number of famous lamps: ANANAS, EPI DE MAÏS, POMME DE PIN, LOTUS, VASE MEDICIS, etc.
1960 The Charles family takes over Fargette and moves to a new location at 16 Rue du Parc Royal, in the Marais neighborhood, carrying on a collection rich in style. The family, already with the help of Chrystiane Charles, designs the most emblematic pieces of the collection (including the famous Ananas, Mais, Pomme de Pin, Lotus, and Vase Médicis lamps), creating a fresh style in the field of lighting and decor.
1965 the stainless steel collection
The stainless steel and lacquer line is created. The organ pipe lamps are wildly popular, becoming synonymous with the aesthetics of the period.
1970 Jean, Jacques and Emile Charles die.
1971 Chrystiane Charles
Chrystiane Charles, Jean's wife and a Beaux Arts gold medalist sculptor, becomes Artistic Director at Charles and creates her eponymous collection.
1972 Charles, sculptor of light
Taking up the family torch, Chrystiane Charles offers a collection of signed and numbered sculptural lamps, contemporary in expression and inspired by nature: AMARYLLIS, ALIZEE, ORCHIDEE, TULIPES, etc.
1978 LAMPE D'OR design award
A Chrystiane Charles design, the Feuille d'Eau lamp, wins the LAMPE D'OR design award at the SALON INTERNATIONAL DU LUMINAIRE DE PARIS.
1981 LAMPE D'OR design award
Another Chrystiane Charles design, the Orchidée lamp, wins the LAMPE D'OR design award at the SALON INTERNATIONAL DU LUMINAIRE DE PARIS.
1982 New sources of light
Laurent Charles, government-licensed architect, joins the company and creates a new line of contemporary/classic lamps, high-quality architectural pieces born out of a geometric, graphical approach to working with light. The collection includes models such as: ATHOS, ARCHEO, TENERE, QUASAR, and LINEA
1984 Comité Colbert
CHARLES, Bronze d'Art joins the Comité Colbert, a group of the leading French artistic and creative companies, confirming the brand's reputation for quality.
1984 Laurent Charles design, the Colisée lamp, wins the LAMPE D'OR design award at the SALON INTERNATIONAL DU LUMINAIRE DE PARIS.
1987 Exhibit with the Comité Colbert in Munich. 1st Concours Charles, Colbert class of 1987.
1988 CHARLES, Bronze d'Art déménage de ses locaux de Montreuil et revient à Paris. Hôtel d'Activités " LES LILAS " 18-20 Rue SOLEILLET, 75020 PARIS. 2nd Concours Charles, Colbert class of 1988. Exhibit with the Comité Colbert in New York.
1989 The Charles company expands its business into luxury hotels and restaurants.
1991 3rd Concours Charles, Colbert class of 1991.
1992 The company wines 2 HONORABLE MENTIONS FOR DESIGN at the SALON DU LUMINAIRE DE PARIS, one for a design by Jean Charles (the Stockholm lamp) and one for Chrystiane Charles' work as a whole.
1997 Chrystiane CHARLES reçoit des Mains du Ministre des Petites et Moyennes Entreprises, M. Jean-Pierre RAFFARIN les insignes de Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite. Laurent Charles takes over as Chairman and CEO of Charles S.A., while Chrystiane Charles becomes Honorary President of the family business.
1998 EDITIONS   Charles has been opening its doors to designers for many years. Arman, Christian Duc, Sylvain Dubuisson, Yves Sabourin, Yamo and Anne Léauté have all developed designs for Charles.
2001 New ownership • Michael Wagner
Michael Wagner, president of the company, buys Charles. The Charles workshops are moved to Saint-Denis (in the Paris region), taking over the former Christofle workshops. The iconic "Les Incontournables" catalog is published.
2004 COLLECTION "SAINT-HONORÉ" A private collection called "SAINT-HONORE" is produced in collaboration with Holly Hunt.
2006 Under the artistic direction of Philippe Parent
Under the artistic direction of Philippe Parent, several emblematic pieces from the Charles collection are odernized. The "MASCARADE" collection designed by Jean Boggio is produced, as well as the "METER" collection and the "GRILLE" model designed by Philippe Parent
2007 EDITION The "DELIGHT" model by Guillaume Vincent is produced.
2008  EDITION The "ATLANTE" model designed by Paco Rabanne is produced The "PROPYLEES" model by Philippe Parent is produced The "BUBBLES" collection designed by Luc Gensollen is produced
2009 Sale of the century The "DOM LUIS" model designed by Jean-Manuel Freitas is produced The "MAXTOM" model designed by Jean-Manuel Freitas is produced The "OCEANIDE" model designed by Jean-Manuel Freitas is produced The "VERSEUSE DE LUMIERE" model by Thomas Bastide is produced An auction described as "the sale of the century" is held
